Many people wonder if certain types of foods and beverages are healthy to eat or drink. The best answer to that question is “it depends”, which most people do not like to hear. I read an article on CNN’s webpage called The Truth About Dairy Sensitivity, and it provides a basic approach on how to find out if you have any kind of allergy or sensitivity in regards to dairy products. Below is the link to the article:

My biggest takeaways from the article were:
- True food allergies cause a reaction in your immune system that affects a variety of organs in your body. If you have a milk allergy, you will experience mild symptoms like a rash, hives, itching or swelling or severe symptoms like difficulty breathing and loss of consciousness.
- A dairy sensitivity, also known as lactose intolerance, involves your digestive system instead of your immune system. Symptoms can still range from mild to severe, but usually include nausea, cramps, bloating and gas. Lactose intolerance can be extremely uncomfortable but it’s not life threatening.
- You can take a ‘hydrogen breath test’ at the doctor’s office to find out if you have a dairy intolerance.
- If you think you might be sensitive to dairy, take a week or 2 off from eating it and see how you feel. After this time period, slowly reintroduce small doses of dairy back into your diet to see how your body reacts.
I do not eat or drink dairy on a regular basis, but there are occasions where I do consume dairy. My body does not really handle dairy very well. Cheese clogs me up a little bit and other dairy products tend to build up some mucus in my nasal cavity. Don’t know if that was TMI, but I figured why not share. To be honest, I think a lot of dairy products and foods made with dairy taste pretty darn good, but the great part about living in the 21st century is the fact that you can substitute most dairy products with other options. Hope you enjoy the article!

20-30g of protein per meal?!? Thats roughly 3 boiled eggs, or 3 oz of Sockeye Salmon, or 4 oz of Ribeye Steak, or 4 oz of Chicken Breast or 4 oz of Lamb.
This article provides really good information on the amount of protein we should be eating at every meal. It will surprise you how much protein your body can actually process during a single meal and throughout the day. When shopping at the grocery store, good sources of protein are usually the most expensive items you can buy. By understanding how much protein your body needs, you can justify buying the more expensive(and usually healthier) cuts of meat, because you will not have to buy a ton of it.

Tis the Season!
Most foods taste better during various times of the year, because there are different harvesting periods for a variety of different foods. I recently heard this helpful bit of information on a podcast called Foundmyfitness with Dr Rhonda Patrick featuring Dr Darya and Kevin Rose. I’m definitely going to use this info next time I go grocery shopping. Below is a link that has the various foods and the season they are harvested in.
